A Message From the Executive Director
A vision of a 100% adoption rate sounds like an impossible goal, but it is
absolutely achievable.
Each year, Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter (SBCAS) sees thousands
of unwanted puppies and kittens turned in. Many of these litters are the
result of irresponsible ownership and uncontrolled breeding. Sadly, many
of those animals come to our Shelter sick or un-weaned. SPCA of Brazoria
County does its best to place animals in loving homes, but the number of
homeless animals far exceeds the number of available homes.
This leaves many loving and healthy animals in our community that must be
euthanized as the only humane solution to this tragic dilemma. Only
spaying and neutering can end the pet overpopulation problem.
Homeless animals live short lives under dreadful conditions. They are
often hungry and thirsty, and when they find something to eat or drink it
is often spoiled or tainted with bacteria and organisms that cause the
animal to be sick. Homeless animals struggle with diseases brought on by
insects and the environment. They are vulnerable to attack by other
animals as well as abuse by some people. They dodge traffic; when hit,
they die or suffer in pain. The list of horrors goes on.
The solution to pet overpopulation has several components. SBCAS serves
the daily needs of homeless animals by getting them off the streets,
reuniting them with their family, or getting them adopted. For those
animals that are sick, injured or otherwise unadoptable, we provide a
humane euthanization that saves the animal from future suffering on the
streets of our community.
The next component is the availability of affordable spay/neuter services
to the community. In Brazoria County, that is possible through our
partnership with several local veterinarians.
The final component is you. In order for this to work, we need you! We
need you to volunteer, to donate your time or your money, to make sure all
your animals are spayed/neutered, to make sure all your friends and family
get their animals spayed/neutered.
We can achieve our vision of a 100% adoption rate if you become part of
the solution
