Foster Care for Shelter Animals

Foster care is the most life-saving service you can provide for animals at our shelter. The animals in most need of foster care are:

  • Nursing mothers with litters less than 4 weeks old.

  • Litters between 4 and 8 weeks old

  • Adult dogs and cats recovering from an upper respiratory infection

  • Adult dogs recovering from heartworm treatment

  • Unweaned puppies and kittens without a nursing mother that require bottle feeding

Because of the high number of stray animals and the diseases they carry, animals in the above categories are at much greater risk of catching other diseases that put their lives at risk.

Foster care is a serious commitment and should only be considered by individuals and families who are willing to take on the challenge. However, it is also extremely rewarding because you are having a direct impact in saving a life.

If you are interested in foster care, you can download the application here, complete the application, and bring it to our shelter in Lake Jackson at 141 Canna Lane.
